Katalin Luczay
I was born in Budapest, Hungary, lived in South America, Canada and several of the United States, and
Europe.  All of these places have played a roll in my development as an artist.
I started drawing at a very
early age b
eing encouraged by a teacher who, through art, tried to wipe out the horrors of the times in
war-torn Hungary. After immigrating I studied
further in Toronto Canada, and  by travelling to museums
internationally.  Settling in New Jersey, USA, I
began successfully exhibiting in juried shows and won
numerous awards.
Being commissioned to do portraits I had a chance to become a recognized portrait artist
as well
. I have taught art for thirty years in my studio, and  locally in art centers for students of all ages,  some
of whom have landed successful art related careers
as well. I have also been invited to lead workshops for
individual groups
and have regularly exhibited in galleries in New Jersey and in Pennsylvania. I work
primarily in oils but am quite adept in pastels and acrylics as well.
My paintings have been influenced by the
works of the great artists of the past such as Mihaly Munkacsi, Salomon van Ruysdael, William Turner John
Singer Sargent, and Pierre Auguste Renoir.
Many of my works are in private collections in the USA, Canada
and Europe.
I am a member of the New Hope Art League, PA,  the Alliance of Monmouth County , NJ and the Guild of
Creative Art at Shrewsbury, NJ.
